25 March 2008

Fellow Representatives:

At the University Assembly meeting of 13 February, we discussed President Skorton’s letter of 4 February requesting reconsideration of 10 areas in the revised Campus Code of Conduct that we had presented to him for his comment and action in November of last year. At that February meeting, the UA authorized its Codes and Judicial Committee to consider the President’s request and to respond to us in mid-March, so that we could answer the President’s letter in the time frame he hoped for, and so that the revised code could begin to function by the beginning of the next academic year. In the six weeks since our 13 February meeting, the CJC has met in five two-hour long sessions to deliberate on the issues involved in these areas of the Code. The document that is attached represents the conclusions and actions of the CJC with respect to seven of the ten areas that the president asked the UA to reconsider.

Three matters remain to be acted upon, and the CJC is continuing its work on these with the expectation that they will report on these in the week before our next full meeting, on the 23rd of April. The President has revised the timetable he had proposed in his letter to permit these three areas to be considered to the full satisfaction of all members of the Cornell community.

As the UA liaison to the CJC, I offer a resolution that we accept the actions of the CJC with respect to these 7 areas.

Sincerely,

Marty Hatch Faculty Representative to the University Assembly
