Campus Infrastructure Committee Resolution 2
Availability of Accessible Unisex Restrooms and Locker Rooms on Campus
Sponsored by: Melissa Lukasiewicz ‘14, Erik Smith, Graduate Student
Whereas, gendered restrooms can limit the ability of families and of those who require companions or companion animals to use restrooms.
Whereas, transgender and gender non-conforming individuals may face discrimination when limited to using gendered restrooms and locker rooms.
Whereas, with approximately twenty available unisex restrooms in non-residential buildings, and zero available unisex locker rooms on campus, there is lack of accessibility and convenience for those who find it preferable or necessary to use a unisex restroom or locker room.
Whereas, a similar resolution concerning unisex restrooms has been passed in Student Assembly November 3rd.
Be it therefore resolved, each new construction and renovation of facilities on the Ithaca campus will include at least one accessible, single stall, unisex restroom.
Be it further resolved, current single-stall restrooms on the Ithaca campus be converted to unisex restrooms.
Be it further resolved, diaper-changing stations be available in campus restrooms where possible and most beneficial to all types of family structures.
Be it further resolved, each new construction of athletic and recreation facilities with locker rooms include at least one unisex changing and shower facility.
Be it further resolved, that the related University administration respond appropriately with an implementation plan.
Respectfully Submitted,
Melissa Lukasiewicz ‘14 Chair, University Assembly
Erik Smith, Graduate Student Voting Member of the GPSA
