Large Animal Teaching Complex: Update — Mina Amundsen Mina provided an update on the Large Animal Teaching Complex (LATC) project. Four sites had been tested for density and program compatibility and the Route 366/Farm Services and Grounds site was selected as the preferred site. As an overview and to answer questions from the committee, Mina pointed out where the original site had been located in the West Orchards. It was felt that this site was unsuitable for a variety of reasons related to the Campus Master Plan; density, placement of certain functions on the site, grade of the site and overall program size.

Mina presented a graphic of the final site location and explained the layout of buildings and the context of the LATC in relationship to the existing CALS and CVM facilities and the Core Campus. The first step in this project would be the completion of a site master plan for the CALS and CVM buildings, followed by the design and construction of the CVM - Teaching Dairy Barn. Key considerations for site master planning were:

Safe and easy pedestrian crossings over Route 366,  
Ensuring good internal circulation that was coordinated with program and operational synergies 

between buildings on this site.

Pete Salino and Grounds would would be engaged during site master planning to determine 

relocation and phasing of Gorunds operations so that operations would be maintained. The proposed site currently provides space for material storage, the recycling center, old research plots and a tree and shrub nursery. These uses would be condensed and moved south of the LATC and land would be reserved to the west for the relocation of the greenhouses.

Discussion � Demolitions: Don Rakow asked whether existing facilities such as the Livestock Pavilion would be taken down and Mina explained that over time each of the CALS and CVM buildings that are no longer used will be demolished to provide space for new academic space. Barb and Mina noted that the Surge 3 (next to the Livestock Pavilion) is currently being deconstructed and the Master Plan process was slowly starting up.
