EA Education: 20111101 Minutes

Education Committee report - Meeting 2
November 01, 2011, 12.00pm — 12.40 pm; Trillium

Attendees: Lavanya G Sayam, Kristen L. Ciferri‎, Katherine Fahey‎, Melissa Jane Kitchen

Agenda for opening up concerns during Employee Assembly Session on November 2, 2011:

  • Pooling Resources: Comprehensive website with a link added on Benefits site regarding professional certifications, IT training courses, technical training that can be obtained by Employees at and outside Cornell.
Current benefits website lists EDP and outside Cornell degree granting information. Nothing comprehensive and together regarding certifications/’professional development’ courses.
  • Survey: Creating a survey which can be sent to candidate pool who have graduated using Benefits from Cornell. Current list of members available from Benefits website. Seeking approval from Employee Assembly. Should we include supervisors in the survey pool? What is the supervisor’s perspective (concerns regarding being able to get primary job done efficiently)
  • Prospective questions on the survey:
How did you get acquainted with educational opportunities?
    Supervisory support
Interest/Inclination — degree program or professional advancement
Challenges of studying and working full time
Concerns faced — did you resolve, how did you resolve
    Scope for improvement
    Suggestions to future aspirants

Other issues brainstormed:

Has reimbursement changed in proportion for degrees obtained outside Cornell?
Can Benefits through light on opportunities for obtaining degrees from other schools than Cornell?
