After 3 years of involvement in the SA, I’m still motivated to serve students because of my frustration over our school’s mispriorities as well as my optimism that with persistent advocacy, we can revive the student voice that is missing in administrative decision-making. As chair of the Community Life committee, I’ve tripled our membership while advocating for students within residential life, mental health, safety, and sustainability; as VP I’ll continue to promote:

Healthy, Affordable Food| Finalize a student-run grocery store that offers need-based subsidies to students Active Bystanders| Implement alcohol/sexual assault bystander training for campus groups+hands-free CPR for 1styr. students Low-Cost Housing| Institute more co-ops+online system for rating the value of off-campus apartments Student Involvement in Carbon Neutrality| Use position as co-founder of environmental council to engage students+advocate for fossil fuel divestment Funding for Student Well-being| Ensure fundraising for student safety, health,+wellness Cross-Campus Programming| Incentivize links between clubs, cultures, and Greek chapters to bring us outside of our comfort zones & break down barriers between campus niches

Hey everyone, my name is Peter Biedenweg and I’m running for Executive Vice President. Lately it seems the Student Assembly has been unsuccessful at getting students’ voices heard. My goal is to work with administrators, students, and representatives to establish better communication, producing successful legislation. By continuing to serve on the SA’s Communications Committee, and having a fresh start with President Elizabeth Garrett, I want to work with our President and share information with students, which the current SA has proved incapable of doing. Adding to this, the Student Assembly now potentially restricts students’ input. By changing the standing rules to state: “The Chair will recognize the members of the community who wish to speak on the question at his or her discretion,” the assembly has limited student’s voices. A government that restricts your expression should not be the government representing you. As EVP, I will work to build a more inclusive and less bureaucratic assembly, in part by amending this rule. As students we all want the best Cornell, but this can only occur with inclusive discourse. As Vice President I will make sure that these conversations occur. Thank you, and remember Peter B. for EVP
