R. 6: A Resolution regarding Allocation of Funding for Slope Day 2007

As discussed Monday, 29 January 2007.

Whereas in 2000 former Cornell President Hunter Rawlings charged the President’s Council on Alcohol and other Drugs to ensure that Slope Day is welcoming to the entire Cornell Community, and;

Whereas in previous years students, faculty and staff with family commitments have been barred from entering Slope Day activates due to young children accompanying them, and;

Whereas the behavior and inebriation of some undergraduate students have discouraged many graduate and professional students from even coming to campus on Slope Day, and;

Whereas in the spring of 2006, the GPSA voted to allocate $4000 from its byline funding towards Slope Day - $2000 for the non-alcoholic Slope Fest and $2000 for talent — on the condition that the Slope Day Steering Committee make an effort to include graduate students in the planning of Slope Day, and that this group follow the appropriate legalities as laid out in the GPSA charter to apply for Byline funding in the fall of 2007; and

Whereas encouraging Graduate and Professional Students to become involved in the planning of and participation in Slope Day activities will foster and encourage a safer environment with more appeal to the graduate and professional student participant, and;

Whereas a continued fiscal investment will help in pursing these goals.

Be it therefore resolved that the Slope Day Programming Board in conjunction with the Slope Day Steering Committee explore ways to allow students with families to bring their children to Slope Fest and view even from a distance the talent portion of the show, and;

Be it further resolved that the Graduate & Professional Student Assembly allocate four thousand dollars to the Slope Day Programming Board, half of which shall be used for Slopefest, with the other half funding talent, and;

Be it finally resolved that this resolution be sent to the Co-Chairs of the Slope Day Steering Committee, Dean of Students Kent Hubbell and Slope Day Programming Board Chair Liz Giorgos.

Respectfully Submitted,
Michael Jay Walsh
