November 24, 2008 Letter from Sharon Dittman Regarding Resolution 1

Dear members of the GPSA, GPSA student advocacy committee, and Student Association of the Geneva Experiment Station:

We are writing to thank you for the leadership and spirit of collaboration you have brought to addressing the health and health insurance needs of members of the graduate community studying in Geneva. In doing so, you also are helping us better serve our mission to support the health and well-being of all members of the Cornell community (and communities). As we strive to use our limited resources most effectively in service of a large population with diverse needs, we rely on our partners in campus governance and university schools/colleges/departments to shine a light on those are as that need more of our attention.

Through your efforts, we are learning more about the needs of the students in Geneva and the regrettable gaps in our communication with them. We have reviewed GPSA R.1: Regarding Health Care & Health Insurance for Cornell Graduate Students Studying at Geneva. The resolutions you set forth are compatible with our own goals. They commit Gannett Health Services, the Office of Student Health Insurance, the GPSA Student Advocacy Committee, and the GPSA Communications Committee to ongoing, constructive engagement that will be responsive to the issues identified by SAGES and provide a foundation for ongoing collaboration in support of graduate student health. We welcome this partnership. To simplify your access and assure our coordination, Sharon Dittman, Gannett’s associate director for community relations, will serve our primary liaison with the GPSA and its committees; her contact information is below. She will facilitate involvement of other Gannett staff members in future meetings as appropriate.

Best wishes to all for a happy Thanksgiving.

Sincerely,
