R.9: Graduate & Professional Student Programming Board
Whereas, the GPSA Events Committee was established in 2005 and has been charged with planning events for the entire graduate and professional student community;
Whereas, these events have included the annual Grad Ball, monthly Grad’s Night Out, mixers, coffee hours, fundraising events, and family-oriented events;
Whereas, on March 14th, 2011, the GPSA voted to approve changes to its charter and bylaws;
Whereas, in the new charter, the Events committee was replaced with the Graduate and Professional Student Programming board (GPSPB);
Whereas, the GPSPB will assume the functions currently assigned to the GPSA Events Committee as well as provide for new opportunities and responsibilities related to social programming for graduate and professional students;
Whereas, the GPSPB will apply to be a byline funded group and will use money from the Graduate and Professional Student Activity fee to fund these events.
Be it therefore resolved that the GPSA approves in concept the formation of the GPSPB as a separate university-affiliated registered student organization to replace the GPSA Events Committee.
Be it further resolved that the GPSA charges the chairperson of the GPSPB, in collaboration with the GPSPB, the Office of the Assemblies and the Assistant Dean of Graduate Student Life, to draft a charter for the GPSPB, to register the organization with the Student Activities Office (SAO), and to prepare and file application materials required to obtain byline funding for the 2012–2014 GPSAF budget cycle.
Be it further resolved that the initial charter of the organization shall be submitted to the GPSA for approval at the soonest possible date and that future amendments thereof will be subject to approval by the GPSA.
Be it further resolved that the charter of the organization shall permit the GPSA to appoint officers and members to the organization and to remove members from the organization.
Be it further resolved that the Executive Board of the GPSA must approve the initial charter and slate of officers appointed for the organization before the organization is registered with the SAO.
Be it finally resolved that this resolution be sent for information to David Skorton, President; Kent Hubbell, Dean of Students; Barbara Knuth, Vice Provost & Graduate School Dean; and Brenda Wickes, Assistant Dean Graduate Student Life.
Respectfully submitted,
