March 6, 2013 Letter to President Skorton Re: R. 12

Dear President Skorton,

Thank you for your response to Resolution 12, which amends the GPSA charter and calls for a number of other items. Things have been moving and happening on a variety of fronts with regard to Cornell Tech students and the GPSA (including representation, assessment of the activity fee, etc.) and I have been trying to wrap my head around everything before responding to your email.

I appreciate your feedback and suggestions on the change to the “resolved” clause beginning in Line 41. If you feel strongly about it, we could re-introduce the resolution with that change. However, only in the resolved clause starting in Line 19 does Resolution 12 call for a change to the charter, which requires your approval. I wonder if I could get your feedback specifically on the resolved clause starting in Line 19 that deals with the charter change itself.

Perhaps we created confusion in the resolution by including a variety of other resolved clauses that don’t have to do with the charter revision. The resolved clause in Line 41 (and also leaving out Vice President Dove, who has been informed after the fact, I believe) to which you suggested a change, I think, was written on my incomplete information about how the Cornell Tech student services would be provided (that we have subsequently been informed on). I don’t think that leaving the Resolution without making that change will lessen the impact of moving forward on the charter change and representation by Cornell Tech and Geneva Campus students. Again, I appreciate your suggested change to the Resolution, and we can re-introduce the resolution with those recommendations, but we would like to move forward on the charter change itself.

Thanks and let me know if you need further clarification.

Best,

Mitch
