Graduate & Professional Student Assembly
Meeting of the GPSA Events Committee
September 29th, 2010
Uris Hall 255 — Levin Reading Room
6:00–7:00 P.M.

I. Welcome and Introductions (if necessary)

II. Grad Ball Update

We are still looking into the availability of WSH for April. May need to consider alternatives. Nicole Baran will continue to work on this.

  • Update: WSH is available April 1st. Will reserve, but continue to look for alternatives on better dates.

III. Program of Events for Year, focusing on fall semester

Fall Semester:

  • Grad’s Night Out (October 14th) — The Westy
    • Roland Foss will contact owner about hosting the event
  • Zombie Pub Crawl (October 28th)
    • Gaylord Desurmont will be main person on this.
  • Inter-school Mixer: Engineering & Biological Sciences (Mid-November)
    • System of name tags and stickers — ask students to collect stickers from 3 people in another department/school in order to get food.
    • Nicole Baran will contact members of EGSA to coordinate
  • Grad’s Night Out (November) — Date & Location TBA
  • Grad’s Night Out (December) — Date & Location TBA
  • Spa Day (December 5th?) — Sartori (tentative)
    • Madeline Smith & Natasha Udpa are coordinating
    • Update 10/17/10: Nicole Baran is looking into co-sponsorship from the Grad School
  • Fireside Chat with President Skorton (date TBA)
    • Scotch with the President — Nicole Baran will contact GPSA voting members about this idea
    • Update: the event will be tea/coffee only. GPSA is reaching out to the President’s Office to schedule the event.
  • Bowling Night at Helen-Newman (early November?)
    • YJ Chen will contact Helen-Newman facilities
  • Museum Event for Graduate Students and their families (date TBA)
    • YJ Chen will contact Ithaca Science Center

Spring Semester

  • Greek Peak Ski Day
    • Look into providing buses?
  • Ice Skating at Linah Rink
  • International Food Night/Cooking Competition
    • Roland Foss is looking into using Statler kitchen facilities
