Graduate and Professional Student Assembly
Student Advocacy Committee Planning Meeting & Summer Updates AGENDA
Planning Meeting: July 10, 2008: Mann Library, 3:30pm — 4:30pm

I. Documentation that needs to be altered (these were the things I thought of, anywhere else I forgot?):

Charter (this is already done by passing R8):

The Student Advocacy Committee will be charged with investigating the needs and desires of graduate and professional students regarding issues and concerns relating to their finances, mental and physical health, and general well being. These issues shall include but are not limited to stipend levels, health insurance coverage, child care, mental health. The Student Advocacy Committee will work in consultation with other relevant committees and interested parties.

GPSA Website (I emailed Ari in student assembly office — no response as of yet):

  1. Application form for committees
  2. Committee description for GPSA Committee Webpage (charter statement)
    • (Currently) The GPSA Pay and Benefits Committee works to identify the needs and desires of graduate and professional students regarding pay and benefits, including stipend levels, insurance coverage, quality of health care, and child care facilities.
  3. Committee website: (introduction = description)

II. Publicity (ideas?)

  • Section within the GPSA-INFO with what we are doing?- would be under “News from the GPSA”
  • Link off of the Graduate School website (right next to the GCI- as that group & ours are related)?
  • Sign for posting in each department ??- paper given out at CoR??
  • Forum(s)? Public committee meetings?

III. Working Procedure*

We need some written documentation of how exactly the committee will function (coagulating I & II’s ideas?).

IV. Issues to look into Summer-Fall semesters:

  • Parental Accommodation Policy (set up meeting with Brenda?)
  • Mental Health (where are we on this??)
  • Health insurance (will be coming up again soon)

The GCI has covered: Following the Grad Center will be Career Services, Housing, then Graduate and Professional Life and Programs. There is a separate committee for day care I believe.
