SA: S.A. Resolution #21: Availability of Accessible Gender-Neutral Bathrooms and Locker Rooms on Campus

Sponsored by: Nate Treffeisen ‘12, Trey Ramsey ‘12, Talia Shear ‘12

Whereas, transgender and gender non-conforming individuals may face discomfort and discrimination when limited to using gendered bathrooms and locker rooms.

Whereas, gendered bathrooms can limit the ability of families and of those who require companions or companion animals to use restrooms easily and comfortably.

Whereas, with approximately twenty available gender-neutral bathrooms in non-residential buildings, and zero available gender-neutral locker rooms on campus, there is lack of accessibility and convenience for those who find it preferable or necessary to use a gender-neutral bathroom or locker room.

Be it therefore resolved, each new construction and renovation of facilities on the Ithaca campus include at least one accessible, single stall, gender-neutral restroom.

Be it further resolved, current single-stall bathrooms on the Ithaca campus be converted to gender-neutral restrooms.

Be it further resolved, diaper-changing stations be available in these gender-neutral bathrooms for the benefit of all types of family structures.

Be it further resolved, each new construction of athletic and recreation facilities with locker rooms include at least one gender-neutral changing and shower facility.

Respectfully Submitted,
