Initial Findings

The Student Assembly has continued to communicate with its counterpart institutions at the Ivy Council; an umbrella organization that provides support for the student governments at each respective Ivy League university. Through this organization, the Student Assembly receives new ideas for improving its own system of campus governance. This year, the Student Assembly is hosting the Ivy Council annual meeting at Cornell University, a remarkable opportunity for Cornell to showcase its beautiful campus and remain an institutional leader amongst its peers.

This fall, the Student Assembly hosted the executive board meeting of the SUNY Student Assembly. Representatives from dozens of SUNY campuses converged on Cornell for a weekend meeting facilitated by our own student government. The Student Assembly has learned much from its counterpart representatives at its SUNY campuses, and delegates report back of their positive experiences at Cornell upon seeing the resources that its state land-grant institution has to offer.

Finally, the Student Assembly should engage its pre-medical counterparts at the Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar. These students, of comparable age and experience, should be encouraged to feel part of the undergraduate experience in Ithaca as our campuses continue to break ground on intercampus collaboration.

Potential Solutions

1. The Student Assembly should continue to invest in its outreach with governance organizations beyond Cornell. This provides the Student Assembly and Cornell University with an opportunity lead its peer institutions and yet another area of higher education.
2. The Student Assembly should seek every opportunity to engage the pre-medical students in Doha, Qatar, and to learn about their experiences as students in the Cornell community. The Student Assembly should take the lead in fostering campus communication and student collaboration between the two campuses.
