From the Cornell Assemblies
Dear President Skorton.
Resolution 16 (Carbon Neutrality and Divestment) declares the University Assembly’s support for Cornell’s goal to achieve carbon neutrality by 2035, but in stark contrast to other Assemblies’ recent actions, it also expresses opposition to the Faculty Senate’s call for divestment from fossil fuel companies. While the vote was not unanimous, a majority of the UA Members believe divestment of this type is not in the best interest of the university at this time. Please be aware that the final resolved clause requests that you forward this Resolution to the University Trustees for their awareness.
Respectfully submitted
-Jim
