2003 AY Action 02 Text

Resolution to Increase Employee-Elected Representation on the Board of Trustees

Whereas, Cornell’s self-governance system initially included two employee-elected members of the Board of Trustees, and

Whereas, when the Board of Trustees was previously reduced in size, the employee-elected trustee seats were limited to one, and

Whereas, there is currently only one employee-elected member of the Board of Trustees, and

Whereas, the Board of Trustees has grown in membership and the number of employee-elected membership has remained constant, and

Whereas, employee representation has proven to be important to this crucial part of the Cornell community, with a unique viewpoint of the essence of Cornell, and

Whereas, the University Assembly has already petitioned the Board of Trustees in support of this concept,

Be It Therefore Resolved, that the Employee Assembly requests and recommends that one additional seat be created on the Board of Trustees to be filled by a staff member elected by his/her peers.

Respectfully,

Donna Goss, Chair Employee Assembly

As unanimously approved by the Employee Assembly on October 15, 2003.
