R. 3 Resolution Regarding CJC Report and Further Code of Conduct Discussion

Whereas, the Employee Assembly recommends that if staff members are to be included in the Code of Conduct that the process is consistent with all three constituencies, faculty, staff and students,

Whereas, specifically, if a staff member in a college department whose supervisor’s supervisor is a facility member and the staff member were to claim that there was a violation of their rights, it should not be the case that the Dean should ask the supervisor’s supervisor to resolve the issue,

Be it therefore resolved that an independent entity, the Judicial Administrator, should be involved in this process to increase fairness and consistency,

Be it therefore resolved that we urge off-campus jurisdiction should not be implemented. What staff does on their own time off-campus, as long as work performance is not affected, is their private matter,

Be it therefore resolved for example, if a staff member is off campus practicing their freedom of speech and another staff member passing disagrees with their views and an altercation occurs where one or both of the parties are fined or arrested, this event should not fall under the jurisdiction of Cornell University,

Be it finally resolved the Employee Assembly feels that the code should be consistent and uniform for each group across campus to include faculty, staff and students.

Respectfully Submitted,

Leon Lawrence
Employee Assembly Representative
