Resolution 1 - Establishing “Unsung Hero Award” and Procedures Whereas the Staff Recognition and Awards Committee (the Committee) of the Employee Assembly (the Assembly) has adopted the attached recommended procedures for a new “Unsung Hero Award” (the Award); Be it therefore resolved that the Assembly endorses and adopts the proposed award and associated procedures; and, Be it further resolved that these procedures be incorporated into the bylaws of the Assembly as Chapter 8, Section 3 of the bylaws.

“Unsung Hero Award” Purpose The “Unsung Hero” award is awarded as a means of recognizing an individual for a high level of dedication, service and caring to others of the Cornell community, a specific unit or other group. This award is used as a means of providing Employee Assembly members with the opportunity to recognize a colleague of their choice that continually strive for the improvement of work life at Cornell. Eligibility A current Cornell University employee or a former Cornell University employee who has had no more than one year elapse since their last date of employment. When Annually at the end of the spring semester. Award Certificate presented by the EA Nominators are welcome to provide extra gifts to their nominee if desired Nominator’s Submission A written statement outlining the reason of choice including an excerpt of specific examples that meet the criteria mentioned in the purpose. All nominations will be reviewed by the Staff Recognition and Awards Committee with final approval being reported at a regular Employee Assembly meeting. All Employee Assembly members are required to submit their nomination by February 28th of every year. The written nomination shall be no longer than two pages long and must follow the guidelines of the nomination template.
