Welcome to Vol. 1 No. 1 of EA E-News. This quick glance at current events and future opportunities is designed to keep busy CU staff informed on campus news.

• The Employee Assembly (EA) received an overview from Associate VIce President Paul Streeter on Cornell’s budget planning and strategies at its Feb. 17 session. Meeting minutes accessible at <http://assembly.cornell.edu/EA/Meetings>. EA meetings are open to all and held first and third Wednesdays (except July) in Day Hall Room 316, 12:15 −1:30 p.m.
• The university’s strategic plan, to be released this spring, will be the focus of a brown-bag lunch with Provost Kent Fuchs and Strategic Planning Advisory Council Chair Ed Lawler on Wednesday, March 3, 12:15–1:15 p.m. in the Ramin Parlor Room, Sage Hall. Details: <www.cornell.edu/reimagining>.
• Campus kudos to Cornell staffers in Utilities and Environmental Compliance/Sustainability, who recently led an effort to eliminate coal for heating university buildings, part of a larger CU goal to reach carbon neutrality by 2050. • Nominations are currently being accepted for the EA’s George Peter Award, given to Cornell staff members who are great at their job, extend themselves to help others, and go “above and beyond” on a daily basis. Details at <http://assembly.cornell.edu/EA-GeorgePeter/Home>.
• The EA is seeking staff members who would be willing to represent the EA on the University Assembly <http://assembly.cornell.edu/UA/Home>. Contact EA Chair Jason Seymour at jjs87 for details.
• Cornell Recreation Connection New York City trips in the coming weeks include a Knicks-Nets basketball game March 6, and various NYC “Days on your Own” this spring. Info: <www.crc.cornell.edu>.
• Bookmark of the month: <www.cornell.edu/events>. On any given day (and night) diverse campus events and opportunities abound for staff, most of them free of charge.
• The Office of Human Resources has gone to great lengths to make its home page and related links more user-friendly. It’s worth a look at <www.hr.cornell.edu>.
• Cornell’s United Way Campaign has reached its goal of $725,000, though donations are still being accepted. Information: <http://unitedway.cornell.edu/>.
• Cornell United Religious Works’ “Soup and Hope” series <www.curw.cornell.edu>, supported in part by the EA, continues on select Wednesdays through mid-April with free soup, bread and stories of hope from on-and-campus folks speaking on community and compassion.
