Questions submitted by EA members

1. As a performer yourself, what do you feel are the role of the performing arts at Cornell, especially considering the devastating cuts facing the Department of Theatre, Film & Dance?

2. As evidenced by recent information regarding the fate of the Russian department, there continues to be a problem with how cuts are being relayed to departments and their personnel. Have there been any substantive meetings with deans to address handling these situations better and more humanely?

3. As an employee of the department and despite claims to the contrary with the budget cuts, Theater, Film and Dance will be seriously diminished. Cornell will become one of the few Ivy schools without a truly active theater/film/dance program. Does this make sense for a university with such a substantial commitment (historically) to the liberal arts?

4. With the many cuts affecting language departments, theater, film and dance and so on, Cornell appears to be moving away from fully representing the liberal arts. Could you please comment on that.

5. As July 1 approaches with more staff cuts when will University/Department leaders begin to focus on “doing less with less”. How will that roll out to the staff and what is the timeline for this to happen?

6. Will there will be staff raises this year and if so how does it compare to the faculty raise pool?

7. Is there an official position of the university on drilling in the Marcellus Shale? What is the latest in this local controversial subject?
