January 10, 2012 Letter from President Skorton Regarding Resolution 1

Dear Tanya,

I have reviewed the Resolution Moving Internal Operating Rules from the Employee Assembly Charter to Its Bylaws and Establishing an office of Vice Chair of Communications that you submitted to me on behalf of the Employee Assembly. I have also reviewed changes to the EA’s charter and bylaws you recommend.

I am in agreement with your recommendation to establish a new office of Vice Chair for Communications in the Assembly’s Executive Board. I agree with your assessment that the communication responsibilities of the EA are significant and warrant this role.

I appreciate your consideration of my view that the President should be required only to approve amendments to provisions of the Charter dealing with the mission, authority, membership, or amendment procedure of the Assembly. As you indicate, I have recently approved changes to the charters of the Student Assembly and University Assembly that make these changes.

I am pleased to accept your resolution to make similar changes to your bylaws and amendments.

As always, I thank you for the fine work you do on behalf of the staff of Cornell and look forward to our work together in the future.

Sincerely,

David Skorton
