The Graduate Community Initiative Working Group has several subcommittees which are accepting members. Please read on about these subcommittees:
Descriptions of Subcommittees
Subcommittee on Career Service
GCI Career Service committee will have membership from Career Services, Student Service/VP Murphy’s office, Faculty, Grad School and others tbd. Andrea Woodward and I will attend from the Grad school. We will be tasked with formulating a plan for increased support for post or non academic career services for masters and phd students. Certainly faculty involvement might be important for academic job discussion as well although generally we have heard fewer concerns related to this. Now is the time to discuss it all however.
Subcommittee on Housing
GCI subcommittee on Housing will look at current on and off campus issues and provide recommendations/responses to the GCI statements related to Grad Housing. Membership from both Residential Programs (on campus) and the OffCampus Housing office as well as DOS and Susan Murphy’s office will be requested. I hope that it will look beyond the current situation at Hasbrouck towards recommendations on future development, needs and unique composition of the graduate student community. Student input on this is of course essential beyond the recent survey that Real Estate conducted.
Subcommittee on Programming, Family, and Student Life
GCI Programming/Family & Student Life committee will include me, Kris Corda from the BRB, perhaps DOS and Residential Programs staff and hopefully at least some membership from registered grad student groups. I’d really like to see this group continue to work together to co-plan events, after putting heads together to itemize what’s here, what’s need etc.
