R. XX Resolution Regarding the Formation of a Task Force to Explore Farm to College Issues

Whereas, the Dining Committee is committed to ensuring the students of Cornell University receive the best food possible as well as being socially responsible;

Whereas, buying local food provides many benefits to the students and to the community such as  providing healthier, fresher, and better tasting food, generating economic growth, fostering a cleaner environment and create community;

Whereas, many other colleges and universities including Cornell University have already taken significant strides in an attempt to purchase more local food and follow the ideals of the Farm to College program, a national campaign sponsored by the Food Security Coalition;

Be it therefore resolved that the Student Assembly form a Task Force to explore the Farm to College program and how to implement those ideals at Cornell University;

Be it further resolved that this Task Force consists of the Chair of the Dining Committee, undergraduate and graduate students, Cornell dining staff, faculty, extension agents, farmers and any other stakeholders the SA or the task force members deem appropriate;

Be it finally resolved that this Task Force will present a report to the SA as well the Dining Committee explaining any recommendations, the progress of the committee and the future direction of the Task Force during the second half of the Fall 2006 semester and then annually after that.

Respectfully Submitted,

Kristen Rich Undesignated Representative Chair of the Dining Committee
