III. Business of the Day

Introductions/Budget Hearings/Help Sessions

J. Zielinski started out the meeting by welcoming all of the commissioners back.

S. Pepper next had all of the commissioners go around and introduce themselves as an icebreaker.

S. McQuilkin asked that all commissioners sign up for two help sessions next week. She said the help sessions run from Tuesday to Friday from 4:00pm 5:00pm. Tuesdays help session will be in 101 Day Hall, while the rest of the sessions will be in Willard Straight Hall. She also asked that if any commissioners need to come late or leave early that they write it down on the sign ups sheets. Lastly, she said that the commissioners would be receiving their SAFC t-shirts at the next meeting.

E. Fischer said that there will be new commissioner training this Saturday from 11:00am to 1:00pm in Kaufman Auditorium in Goldwin Smith Hall. She asked that all the new commissioners complete the President and Treasurers Test (P&T) and print and sign the ethical conduct sheet that is also on the SAFC website before Saturday. The rest of the commissioners need to complete the P&T Test and ethical conduct sheets before the next meeting.

J. Zielinski added that the new P&T Test is on the SAFC website at http://assembly.cornell.edu/SAFC .

S. McQuilkin said that if anyone had any problems they can email the co-chairs at SAFC@cornell.edu.

S. Pepper read the attendance policy to all of the commissioners (each commissioner is allowed three unexcused or five excused absences until they will brought in front of the commission for violating this policy). He asked that anyone who cannot make any meetings email him at SP365@cornell.edu because absences really hurt the commission as well as every organization asking for money from the SAFC.

S. McQuilkin added that if any commissioner cannot sign up for two help sessions, they should sign up for an extra budget hearing shift.

J. Zielinski said that Ms. Shetter had an accident over the summer so she will not be on the commission this fall.

E. Fischer briefly introduced the liaison program and said that more about the program will be emailed out closer to the date of the budget hearings.

S. Boxer introduced herself and reminded the commission that the SAFC is a branch of the SA. She also introduced her fellow SA member, Ms. Ehrlich, and told the commission that Ms. Ehrlich will be at the meetings more than she will be because Ms. Boxer is at the meetings more as an overseeing body. She also told the commission that after the budget hearings, there will be groups that will go through a series of appeals to get funding that will ultimately end up in the hands of the SA. She briefly explained how the appeals would go to the SAFC, then an Appropriations Committee, then finally the SA. Lastly, she explained how she was going to bring up a Resolution to the SA in which every member that partakes in the appeals process must take the P&T test.

S. McQuilkin next reminded the commission that there was a calendar and directory attached to the email she had sent out earlier in the day. She also added that later in the fall the SAFC would be having Executive Board (E-Board) elections and that any person interested in running for the E-board should start reaching out to current E-Board members as well as trying to get themselves more involved in the SAFC. Finally, she said that she would go over the elections in more detail closer to the time of the elections.

J. Zielinski reminded that commission that the help sessions were next week, and that the budget hearings were in a little over 2 weeks, so all of the commissioners should start getting ready for everything (brushing up on the P&T Test/Handbook).

S. McQuilkin ended the meeting by telling the commission that there would be a lot of different sign up sheets circulated during the weekly meeting so each commissioner should bring their calendar to make sure the dates fit with their schedule.
