III. Internal Budget Reviews

  • L. Kogos: Overall the reviews went well. Some problems:
    • Some people didn’t specify what documentation was missing.
    • Some of the amounts suggested did not make sense-make sure your review the amount you are putting in each time.
  • D. Greener: Would it be possible to have an itemized list of everything we approve for the particular group at the end of the process? It was hard to tell if the amount suggested made sense in the end because the bulk of the costs were line items that were not specified at the end.
  • Kogos: We will take that into consideration.

IV. Budget Hearings

  • Budget hearings will be 4:30–9:30pm Tuesday and Wednesday in GSH 158 and 160.
    • L. Kogos: We should be done Tuesday by 8 at the latest and Wednesday by 6:30 or 7.
  • Kogos: For budget hearings, we will have about ten tables going at once. Review the group’s application first so you can actually have questions.
  • A. Bandali: The groups will come in and justify why they should get what they need.
  • B. Coulter: Make sure you are all on the same page before the group comes in. The old commissioners will be doing the majority of the talking.
  • Kogos: You make the decision after the budget hearing, not while the group is standing there. Don’t turn the conversation into an argument with them. If they try to argue with you, tell them to talk to one of the co-chairs; one of us will be in each room.
  • C. Blumenthal: Also, if you know someone in one of the clubs, discretely excuse yourself from that particular hearing.
  • E. Polk: What if we don’t understand why the commissioner didn’t approve funding?
    • Kogos: That’s why we had you put your names on the comments. We will have people around to help interpret comments.
  • R. Desai: Even if you are positive that a group will get funded, do not tell them. They will find out later when the final decisions come out.
  • If you have any questions or suggestions, let the e-board know.

V. The meeting was adjourned at 5:15pm.

Respectfully submitted,

Miriam Asher
