SA Committee on Residence and Community Life Meeting
Stimson 105
September 22, 2009

  • Suggestions for/Comments on RHD Resolution
    • Include all students
  • Program houses are open to community so there are others at stake
  • It is only fair for those paying to live there to also have a say in RHD
  • Even those moving out, who have more experience, should have some input
    • First focus on program houses, then extend resolution to other dorms
    • Add end of the year RHD evaluation survey
    • Make sure there is only one RHD per building
    • Those interested in electing RHD should attend open Hall Council meetings
  • Create temporary committee focused on RHD election
    • RHD elections in larger dorms may lead to students electing a more lenient RHD while the University would prefer a more responsible one
    • There is a lack of student and RHD relationship in larger dorms
  • Low and High Rises
    • Since these buildings were built to prevent rioting, navigation through building is difficult and unclear for residents
    • Allow key card access to all stairways
  • Could possibly cut back on power used by excessive elevator use by residents
  • Noise Violation Regulations in Collegetown
    • Find a way to get rid of them since the University partly owns Collegetown
  • Off Campus Housing
    • Allow construction of more floors on apartment buildings
  • This would lower prices
  • Reservations of Dining Halls
    • Make it so that reservations are not only open to residents
  • As long as the reservation is an open event
  • Final Thoughts on RHD Resolution
    • Hold off on moving RHD’s until final decision made on resolution
    • Acknowledge different living conditions
  • Program Houses, North Campus Dorms, West Campus Dorms, Co-Ops, etc.
    • Main Purpose of Resolution: To act, in response to all students, on giving them not only a voice in RHD selection but also a vote.
  • Misc.
    • There will also be a meeting next week at the same time (4:30 pm, Sep. 29)
    • Once Jon confirms meeting with Director of Residential Programs Joe Burke anyone is welcome to attend and support
