SA Committee on Residence and Community Life Meeting
Goldwin Smith 162
October 20, 2009

  • RHD Resolution
    • Burke appointed student elective before the resolution was passed and disregarded application process
  • Program Houses
    • Issues concerning program houses have risen due to continuous occupancy declining
    • Could be due to bad conditions compared to West Campus
    • If maintenance of houses kept up could encourage more people to live there
    • Ask Cornell to renovate

Most of the time it’s the ethnically themed ones that are attacked Not a good idea to force people into program houses; defeats the purpose Programs houses are not advertised accurately

  • Should be more open to whole student body
  • Promote activities to all students (even those on West Campus)
  • West campus initiative has been hurting houses

North Campus is considered far from most campus destinations

  • Cornell is looking into bus passes for program houses
  • Would rather see funds go to long term improvements (renovations, etc.) instead of bus passes
  • Bus passes may not even be that much of a incentive since West Campus is so nice
  • Misc.
    • Jon will meet with Burke concerning his disregard for application process for student representative
    • Thank you, Jon for bringing pizza, wings, and drinks!
    • Next meeting: TBA
