SA Residence and Community Life Committee Meeting

Goldwin Smith 162
November 10, 2009

Revitalizing interest in Program Houses

  • Send out through Listserv’s
    • RA Listserv?
    • All Listserv’s?
  • Promo in the Sun?
  • Ujamaa Listserv (for Ujamaa spot)
    • May be met with some reluctance because students will want to see how Ken Glover issue will play out

Resolution 21

  • Using our RHD resolution to argue that Glover shouldn’t be removed until students placed on selection committee and have voiced opinion

Ivy Council

  • Talked about housing
  • Cornell by far has best system (variety, more choice)

Transfer Housing

  • Transfers want to be more involved with residential community
    • But would still like to stick together
  • New transfer house? In west?
  • Integrate groups of transfers into residential community
  • Transfer floor? Transfer suite? Program house-like?
  • Guaranteed housing for transfers? And sophomores?
    • On west?
      • But sophomores are already guaranteed housing on campus
      • Larger percentage is reserved for sophomores ahead of time
    • Contradicts need to promote interest in program houses (making it less of an option)
    • Can be solved by giving sophomores first pick

Student Survey (will be sent out by SA)

  • Include a ResLife question?
