R. 2 Resolution to appoint new members to the hearing and review boards

As presented Wednesday, 2 May 2007.

Whereas, the University Assembly Charter (the Charter) states that the Assembly may “select the members of the Hearing and Review Boards responsible for the determination of cases brought under the rules referred to in 1.1”; and,

Whereas, Article I, Section 1 of the Charter states the Assembly shall “have legislative authority for those aspects of the conduct of members of Cornell University now covered by the Campus Code of Conduct and the Statement of Student Rights. Pursuant to the Henderson Law, proposals for changes in the Campus Code of Conduct shall be subject to the approval of the Board of Trustees, when appropriate,”; and,

Whereas, the Office of the Assemblies (the office) has identified ten (10) student vacancies and nine (9) staff vacancies in the University Hearing and Review Board pool for the 2007–2008 academic year; and,

Whereas, the office has solicited for applications from the student and employee communities as called for in the Campus Code of Conduct; and,

Whereas, the Codes and Judicial Committee (the CJC) of the Assembly has reviewed all applications received and interviewed all applicants; and,

Whereas, the CJC has recommended the following students for appointment until the fall 2008 semester:

  • A. Gregory

Whereas, the CJC has recommended the following students for appointment until the fall 2009 semester:

  • M. Harvey
  • C. Gould
  • M. Cherif
  • J. Philips
  • B. Diehl
  • M. Smith
  • S. Wild
  • R. Mahmood
  • S. Schepel

Whereas, the CJC has recommended the following staff for appointment until the fall 2009 semester:

  • J. Cisne
  • J. Duong

Be it therefore resolved that the Assembly approves the recommendation of the CJC; and,

Be it further resolved that the office will update directories to reflect the new appointments and will alert the Judicial Administrator of the appointments.
