R. 8 Resolution on the Revision of the Campus Code of Conduct

As approved Wednesday, 14 November 2007.

Whereas, in his letter of 15 May 2007, President David J. Skorton asked the Cornell University Assembly (UA) to undertake a thorough evaluation of the Campus Code of Conduct (Code), and

Whereas, President Skorton asked the UA to report to him on the Code by 31 December 2007, and

Whereas, the UA gave the task of reviewing the Code to its Codes and Judicial Committee (CJC), and

Whereas, community forums were held and comment was made in the period from September to mid-October of 2007, and

Whereas, taking into consideration the diverse opinions, interests, and knowledge of all sectors of the campus community, the CJC crafted an exemplary document that reflects balance and compromise regarding the rights and responsibilities of the Cornell community, and

Whereas, the UA considers this effort, an inspirational example of university decision-making process;

Be it therefore resolved, that the UA enthusiastically and unanimously approves the Revised Campus Code of Conduct attached to this resolution and urges that it be implemented on 1 July 2008.
