Increased Participation of graduate and professional students upon the University Sustainability Committee
Whereas the University Sustainability Committee is tasked “to advise, consult, and communicate on matters related to the development and implementation of community sustainability issues, policies and programs”; and,
Whereas many members of the Graduate and Professional student body at Cornell University have expressed interest in and taken action upon community-wide sustainability issues, policies and programs; and,
Whereas the presence of additional graduate student representatives would better assure participation of the many willing graduate and professional students on campus and more centralize the advice, consultation and communication of community-wide sustainability efforts; and,
Whereas Article Eleven of the charter states, “An affirmative vote of a majority of the voting members of the University Assembly shall be required to amend the Bylaws and Procedures of the University Assembly and an affirmative vote of 2/3 of the seated membership those articles of the Charter not excluded in 11.1”; and,
Be it therefore resolved that the assembly amends Article Ten, Section Seven, Clause five as follows with additions in bold and deletions in strikethrough:
two members of the Cornell faculty, one of whom is appointed by the Cornell University Center for a Sustainable Future, the other by the Faculty Senate, one three graduate and one undergraduate student (each appointed by their respective assemblies), and two staff members, one of whom is appointed by the Office of Environmental Compliance and Sustainability the other by the Employee Assembly. Each member shall serve a two year staggered term.
Be it finally resolved that this resolution be forwarded to the President of the University for consideration and action.
Respectfully Submitted,
Edward Strong
