R. 10: Resolution Regarding the Reestablishment of the Committee on Police Status (COPS)

Introduced Thursday, 14 September 2006.

Whereas, in both the past two years the Student Assembly has voted to explore the legal status of the Cornell Police and its subsequent impact on the student body;

Whereas, last year the Student Assembly authorized the creation of a Committee to Explore the Legal Status of the Cornell Police but failed in its obligation to report to the student body;

Whereas, the Committee will need to begin again its inquiry into the issue;

Whereas, the Student Assembly, in its duty to the student body, recognizes the importance inherent in all matters of campus safety;

Be it therefore resolved that the charge of the Committee will be reestablished under the designation: Committee on Police Status (COPS);

Be it further resolved that Joseph Rudnick remain as the Chair of the Committee, and that he shall appoint a sufficient number of members subject to the approval of the Student Assembly;

Be it finally resolved that COPS shall produce a public report of its findings no later than May 2007, unless the charge is otherwise extended.

Respectfully submitted,

Ahmed Salem 08 International Liaison At-Large

Joseph Rudnick 08 Former Chair, Committee to Explore the Legal Status of the Cornell Police, 2006
