R. 32: Resolution Regarding the Creation of an Ad-Hoc Committee to Review the Student Assembly Charter

As discussed Thursday, 8 March 2007.

Whereas, the Student Assembly has not done a comprehensive review of its charter since May 2004;

Whereas, incongruities, ambiguities, and inaccuracies may exist in the charter;

Whereas, the charter may be inconsistent with the charters of other bodies to which it refers;

Whereas, the Student Assembly has passed at least seven charter changes since September 2005 which have not been officially incorporated into the charter;

Be it therefore resolved that an ad-hoc committee, the Committee to Review the Student Assembly Charter, is created;

Be it further resolved that the charge of this committee shall be as follows: “To examine the Student Assembly charter for incongruities, ambiguities, and inaccuracies that may arise between the charter and itself or other charters and to propose changes to the charter to restore harmony”;

Be it further resolved that this committee shall have the authority to conduct the investigations necessary to determine whether parts of the charter are inaccurate or incongruous with itself or other charters;

Be it further resolved that this committee will be chaired by the Student Assembly Parliamentarian, staffed by the President of the Student Assembly, and supervised by the Vice President of Internal Operations;

Be it further resolved that this committee shall expire at the end of the current academic year;

Be it finally resolved that this committee will report to the President of the Student Assembly no later than four weeks after the passage of this resolution, and that the President will either approve or reject each proposed change, not inclusive of changes that the SA has previously approved pursuant to Article 2.2, and present the list of approved proposed changes to the Assembly at the earliest meeting following the receipt of the report, but not on the same day.

Respectfully submitted,

Kwame Thomison ‘07 President, Student Assembly
