R. 36: Resolution Regarding the Committee Members of the Joint Assemblies Financial Aid Review Committee

As discussed Thursday, 8 March 2007.

Whereas, the Joint Assemblies Financial Aid Review Committee is responsible for reviewing and granting requests for emergency grants of the Students Helping Students fund;

Whereas, the Students Helping Students fund is allocated through the undergraduate Student Activities Fee;

Be it therefore resolved that the allocation of emergency grants from the SHS fund be under exclusive jurisdiction of undergraduate voting members of the committee;

Be it further resolved that the following amendment to Bylaw 7.5.a.4 be as follows:

Bylaw 7.5.a.4:

Joint Assemblies Financial Aid Review Committee:

The committee will examine the financial aid policies of Cornell University, and review their current status. The committee shall consist of five voting undergraduate students, at least four of whom receive some form of institutionalized financial aid, one graduate/professional student to be appointed by the GPSA, two faculty members, one counselor from the Office of Financial Aid, and two SA members. The Associate Provost for Admissions and Enrollment, the Director of Financial Aid and Student Employment and the Vice President for Student and Academic Services shall serve as ex officio non-voting members. The committee is additionally responsible for the review and allocation of the Student Helping Students emergency fund in which the undergraduate committee members have exclusive voting rights. The graduate/professional student, the faculty members, and the financial aid counselor will act as non-voting members in the allocation of the SHS fund. The committee is chaired by an SA member and can be convened by either the UA or SA. The committee, however, reports regularly to both Assemblies.
