R.6 Compliance with University Policy 4.10
Originally Presented On: | Thursday, September 18, 2008 |
Sponsors: | Nikhil Kumar, Nicole Rivera, Rammy Salem |
Subject of Resolution: | Compliance with University Policy 4.10 |
Status/Result: | - |
Whereas, Cornell University’s “Use of Cornell Name” policy document, Policy 4.10, states that “Cornell University allows the use of its name, logos, trademarks, insignia, artwork, and other indicia associated with the university in accordance with the principles and procedures set forth” in that document.
Whereas, Cornell University’s Policy 4.10 further states that “the name ‘Cornell University’ connotes a proprietary interest in activities housed at or sponsored by the institution. For that reason, Cornell has adopted the following principles and procedures to ensure that the use of Cornell name, logos, trademarks, insignia, artwork, and other indicia associated with the university reflects the standards and values that are vital to the university’s well-being and that it seeks to uphold”
Whereas, The Office of the Dean of Students is responsible for dealing with suspected violations by student organizations and publications of Policy 4.10
Whereas, The Student Assembly adopted Cornell’s Statement on Diversity, “Open Doors, Open Hearts, Open Minds,” on December 3, 1999, which states that, “each member of the Cornell community has a responsibility to honor this legacy and to support a more diverse and inclusive campus in which to work, study, teach, research, and serve”
Whereas, Recent and previous installments of the Cornell Review/American have caused feelings of alienation and intimidation for some members of the Cornell community
Be it therefore resolved, That the Student Assembly believes that recent articles in the Cornell Review are inconsistent with the values of Cornell’s Statement on Diversity
Be it further resolved, That the Student Assembly recommend that the Office of the Dean of Students review the Cornell Review’s compliance with Policy 4.10 and report its findings to the Student Assembly within a reasonable period of time
Respectfully submitted,
Nikhil Kumar
