October 23, 2008 Meeting Attachment
R. 11 Student Assembly Absentee Policies
Originally Presented On: | Thursday, October 23, 2008 |
Sponsors: | J. Anthony Miller |
Subject of Resolution: | Student Assembly Absentee Policies |
Status/Result: | - |
Whereas, the Charter of the Student Assembly currently states in bylaw 3.4 that, “Any voting members who are absent for three consecutive regularly scheduled meetings or for six regularly scheduled meetings cumulatively during their term, will lose their right to vote and their position will be considered vacated”
Whereas, bylaw 3.4 does not take into account the differences between excused and unexcused absences.
Whereas, there are a total of 27 meetings of the Student Assembly during the academic year.
Whereas, it is reasonable to expect that each member attend at least 20 of these meetings during each semester.
Be it therefore resolved, that bylaw 3.4 of the Charter of the Student Assembly which previously read as follows:
3.4 Any voting members who are absent for three consecutive regularly scheduled meetings or for six regularly scheduled meetings cumulatively during their term, will lose their right to vote and their position will be considered vacated.
Will now read:
3.4 Any voting members who are absent for three consecutive regularly scheduled meetings will lose their right to vote and their position will be considered vacated. Any voting members who are absent, excused or unexcused, for a total of seven regularly scheduled meetings cumulatively during their term will lose their right to vote and their position will be considered vacated. Any voting members who are absent, but unexcused, for a total of 3 regularly scheduled meetings cumulatively during their term will lose their right to vote and their position will be considered vacated.
Respectfully submitted,
