R.20 Smooth Transition of Executive Board

Originally Presented On:Thursday, January 22, 2009
Sponsors:Andrew Brokman and Octavio Sandoval
Subject of Resolution:Smooth Transition of Executive Board
Status/Result:-

Whereas, the Cornell Student Assembly is going to hold its first open elections for the Presidency this semester.

Whereas, the students need a President who is adequately prepared for any and all administrative tasks.

Whereas, the President of the Student Assembly has many demanding responsibilities and obligations including overseeing the affairs of all Student Representatives, establishing a healthy relationship with the Administration, and implementing the Robert’s Rules of Order.

Whereas, the outgoing President has a large body of knowledge and experience that could potentially benefit the newly elected President and the students at large.

Whereas, the Student Assembly Charter does not provide for a mentorship program between the outgoing and incoming Executives.

Whereas, a formalized process of preparing the President-elect will ensure an adequate transition for all future Presidents.

Be it therefore resolved, that the Student Assembly Charter be amended to provide for: Bylaw 4.1.f After the Spring Elections, the President is obligated to mentor the President-elect on all responsibilities of the position and current issues in facing the Assembly. The President must fulfill this duty immediately after receiving the election results, and continue to be a mentor until his term in office has expired.

Respectfully submitted,

Andrew Brokman
