R.25 Mitigation of Enviromental Impact by By-line Funded Groups

Originally Presented On:Thursday, February 19, 2009
Sponsors:Emlyn Diakow, Mike Walsh, Chris Nickel, Whitney Larsen, Claire Moser
Subject of Resolution:Mitigation of Enviromental Impact by By-line Funded Groups
Status/Result:

Whereas, Cornell is committed to reducing its carbon footprint under the President’s Climate Commitment in developing the Cornell Climate Action Plan, and the Student Assembly has been a supporter of student involvement in this initiative

Whereas, the Student Assembly is tasked with biennially allocating the student activity fee to by-line funded groups, currently including but not limited to Class Council, Concert Commission, CUPB, CU Tonight, and Slope Day Programming Board, which put on large events that hold the potential to develop and employ more sustainable practices

Whereas, assessing an organization’s environmental impact and impact mitigation options is becoming a ubiquitous practice, and such assessments can lead to a reduced environmental impact as well as potential cost savings

Be it therefore resolved, that for all future by-line funding requests, an environmental impact and mitigation statement that details the environmental footprint of the organization and measures taken to abate it must be submitted. Such a statement should include an estimated carbon inventory, waste report, and other measurable impacts. The statement should also include current and planned abatement measures that would address the stated impacts.

Respectfully submitted,
