April 19, 2009 Meeting

R.33 Staffing Committee

Originally Presented On:April 9, 2009
Sponsors:Nikhil Kumar
Subject of Resolution:Staffing Committee
Status/Result:

Whereas, the Student Assembly (the Assembly) recognizes the importance of creating a streamlined process for filling committee vacancies,

Whereas, the Assembly currently delegates authority to staff its committees and other positions that it is empowered to staff to the Staffing Committee, defined in Bylaw 7.6.a.5:

Staffing Committee The committee shall be in charge of staffing all committees of the SA and additional undergraduate student appointments to committees of other Assemblies as well as evaluating committee structure. The membership of this committee shall consist of all voting members of the SA. Ex-officio membership shall be granted to the Director of the Office of Assemblies, Dean of Students, and Executive Archivist. The VP Internal Operations shall serve as chair. Quorum for this committee shall be defined as six voting members.

Whereas, the Assembly has struggled to convene a dedicated group of six or more of its members to fulfill the charge of this committee and the Vice President of Internal Operations has consequently staffed committees without achieving the specified quorum,

Whereas, the Assembly has generally been unable to convene the Staffing Committee in any form to fill vacancies that occur or persist in the middle of the academic year,

Be it therefore resolved, that Bylaw 7.6.a.5 be changed to read:

Staffing Committee - The committee shall staff any vacant committee positions the Student Assembly (SA) is empowered to staff. The membership of this committee shall include the SA’s President, Executive Vice President, Vice President of Finance, Vice President of Public Relations, and Vice President of Internal Operations. Ex-officio membership shall be granted to the Director of the Office of Assemblies. The VP Internal of Operations shall serve as chair. The VP of Internal Operations shall be responsible for consulting with chairpersons of committees and recommending candidates for vacant committee positions to the Staffing Committee.

Respectfully submitted,

Nikhil J. Kumar
Minority Representative at-Large, Vice President of Internal Operations-Elect
