R.37 Housing Lottery Recommendations - Part 1: Information

Originally Presented On:April 16, 2009
Sponsors:Nikhil Kumar, Emily Cucick, Natalie Raps
Subject of Resolution:Housing Lottery Recommendations - Part 1: Information
Status/Result:

Whereas, students have expressed deep concern about the quality of information available to them regarding the housing lottery process

Whereas, students accessing floor plans prior to their lottery timeslot allows them to prioritize building types, building, floor, and areas desired

Whereas, live information regarding number of spaces available prior to a student’s lottery timeslot allows for the prioritization of building types, building, floor, and areas desired

Whereas, there are technological and legal constraints inherent in an online housing lottery system

Be it therefore resolved, the Student Assembly recognizes the importance of students getting relevant information in order to make the decision of entering the hosing lottery

Be it further resolved, that the Student Assembly adopts the following recommendations:

  • 1. That Campus Life explore the possibility of posting floor plans on a secure website accessible only through the use of a verified Cornell netid
  • 2. Live information: that Campus Life explore the possibility of posting data regarding the number of beds allocated, by class, as the lottery progresses
  • 3. That Campus Life reduce the number of days that students can sign up for the housing lottery by 5 days

Respectfully submitted,
