About Joining a Committee
Thanks for your interest in joining a Student Assembly committee! Over the past few years, SA committees have tackled a number of issues of great concern to the entire Cornell community and have often been the catalyst for change on campus. I am especially excited about next year, when we will have a great group of committee chairpersons ready to work hard to make sure that the concerns of Cornell students are heard and that the solutions we support are implemented.
Linked to this website, you will find application forms for the different committees. You can also find committee descriptions, past meeting agendas and minutes, and current committee members on this website. Before submitting an application, please be aware that each committee meets at least bi-weekly. Additionally, because this is a by-line funding year and the Student Assembly will be responsible for allocating over $5 million in funds collected from the Student Activity Fee, please also be aware that being a member of the Appropriations Committee will require a significantly greater time commitment (at least 3 hours on Monday nights in the fall).
All committees will begin meeting by August 31st, 2009 so it is imperative to submit your application in a timely manner. A very limited number of committee members will be notified of their appointment in May 2009, with the majority of committee positions being filled in the first two weeks of the Fall 2009 Semester. If you are not appointed at that time, you are still welcome to attend committee meetings to voice issues of concern and we will keep your application on file so that we can notify you if vacancies occur on committees of interest.
Thanks again for your interest in applying for an SA committee and please do not hesitate to contact me at anytime at the email address below with any specific questions or concerns that you might have.
