R.9 UA Undergraduate Representative Application Process
Originally Presented On: | September 17, 2009 |
Sponsors: | Nikki Junewicz |
Subject of Resolution: | UA Undergraduate Representative Application Process |
Status/Result: |
Whereas, the University Assembly (UA) Undergraduate Representative is a position voted on by the entire undergraduate student body,
Whereas, one of two UA Undergraduate Representative seats remains unfilled after the fall special election,
Whereas, another special election for the unfilled UA seat is logistically unfeasible,
Whereas, Bylaw 1.15.a states: If at any time during the course of an academic year, a UA member elected directly from the undergraduate student body should leave his office, then the seat shall be filled by the next highest-ranking non-winning candidate. If there should not be a next highest-ranking non-winning candidate after the fall special election, the seat shall be filled by a SA voting member in accordance with Bylaw 4.1.a.
Whereas, Bylaw 4.1.a states: Elections for officers and the two SA voting members to the UA shall be by separate secret ballots. SA voting members may have one vote for each position to be filled, but may not vote for any one individual twice on any ballot. The President may not be one of the SA representatives to the UA.
Be it therefore resolved, the Bylaw 1.15.a shall be changed to read:
If at any time during the course of an academic year, a UA member elected directly from the undergraduate student body should leave his office, then the seat shall be filled by the next highest-ranking non-winning candidate. If there should not be a next highest-ranking non-winning candidate after the fall special election, the seat shall be filled by the undesignated at-large candidate receiving the most number of votes in the preceding spring election.
Respectfully submitted,
