Resolution 84
Whereas, R. 11, entitled “Housing Lottery Time Slots” called for the reassignment of Housing Lottery Time Slots so that on-campus rising sophomores receive the first set of time slots, followed by on-campus rising juniors, then followed by on-campus rising seniors, and finally followed by students living off-campus.
Whereas, the Department of Campus Life has agreed to implement this recommendation for the 2010–2011 academic year
Whereas, at the time of the Housing Lottery in March, mid-year transfer students (matriculating in the Spring semester) would have spent the least amount of time at Cornell among the eligible pool of Housing Lottery students
Whereas, this policy, as currently phrased, would not give mid-year transfer students, most of whom are unfamiliar with Cornell’s off-campus housing opportunities, a priority in on-campus housing selections and would thus force many of them to search for alternative off-campus housing options despite having spent less than one semester at Cornell
Whereas, Cornell accepts approximately 130 mid-year transfer students every year
Be it therefore resolved, that the Cornell Department of Campus Life designates housing lottery time slots so that on-campus students who have spent 1–2 semesters at Cornell receive the first set of time slots, followed by on-campus students with 3–4 semesters at Cornell, then followed by on-campus students with 5–6 semesters at Cornell, and finally followed by students living off-campus.
