Student Assembly

Whereas, the administration is currently searching for a candidate to fill a new administrative position of Assistant Vice Provost for Academic Diversity Initiatives;

Whereas, this selection committee currently contains 10 faculty and administrators but only one student representative;

Whereas, this position is being created to evaluate and improve the student experience for all minority students on campus;

Whereas, there currently exists limited opportunities for students to share their opinions regarding the selection of this new administrator;

Whereas, in the past the selection process for new administrative positions that had a strong influence on the student body such as the Residential Hall Director of the Ujamma Program House had two students sit on the selection committee;

Whereas, it is imperative to have student voice in a process that will affect all students on campus for years to come;

Whereas, Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education Laura Brown has expressed the need for more student input for this committee

Be it therefore resolved, that the selection committee for the Assistant Vice Provost for Academic Diversity Initiatives add a second student representative to it;

Be it further resolved, that the student to be placed on the selection committee be chosen by the chairs of the Joint Assemblies on Multicultural Issues Committee and the current student representative on the aforementioned selection committee after consultation from the Joint Affairs on Multicultural Issues;

Be it further resolved, that both the current student representative and the newly appointed student representative on the search committee hold a periodic public forum in which students from the community have the opportunity to present their views on what they want characteristics they most desire in the chosen Assistant Vice Provost from the student perspective.
