Resolution 36. Call for Bipartisanship in the 112th Congress and Recognition of Historic Gains Made by the Republican Party of the United States of America
Whereas the People of the United States of America voted on the 2nd day of November in the year of our Lord two thousand ten to elect representatives and senators to the 112th Congress, resulting in a net gain of 60+ seats in the House of Representatives and of approximately 7 seats in the United States Senate for the Republican Party; and
Whereas the result of the November 2010 midterm election represents a historic shift of power in the House of Representatives; and
Whereas the overwhelming victory signals a positive change in the course of this country; and
Whereas the Student Assembly of Cornell University, as a representative governing body, encourages citizens to engage in the political process; and
Whereas civil discourse is both desired and necessary for responsible government to take form;
Be it therefore resolved that the Student Assembly of Cornell University calls for members of the 112th Congress from all political parties to work together to improve the economic state of the nation;
Be it finally resolved that the Student Assembly of Cornell University congratulates the Republican Party for its historic victory during the 2010 midterm election.
Respectfully submitted,
