Resolution 42

Whereas, a co-operative is an autonomous association of persons united voluntarily to meet their common economic, social, and cultural needs and aspirations through a jointly-owned and democratically-controlled enterprise (ICA 2010);

Whereas, Cooperatives at Cornell are unique, collaborative communities governed by their student residents, and are among the least expensive housing alternative on campus;

Whereas, Cooperatives are environments that effectively promote Service Learning, as defined by the Community Service Act of 1990;

Whereas, students at Cornell are searching for alternative living arrangements that offer more specific programming and further common causes of concern;

Whereas, the Public Service Center has worked with a group of interested students to draft a proposal that outlines the reasons for creating a new Co-op as well as a plan for implementation;

Be it therefore resolved, that the Student Assembly endorses the attached proposal for the establishment of a new Cooperative;

Be it finally resolved, that the administration continue to work with the students, the Public Service Center, and the Assembly to implement the proposal as described.

Respectfully submitted,
