Resolution 67

Whereas, the Faculty Senate in a vote of 46–2 approved their Education’s Policy Committee’s resolution regarding homework over academic breaks.

Whereas, students often attribute their high stress levels to increased workloads.

Whereas, “student workloads have become an increasing cause of concern in relation to student mental health and stress,” according to the Faculty Senate’s resolution.

Whereas, academic breaks are crucial for students to rest, reground themselves and take a break from the intense workload at Cornell University.

Be it therefore resolved, that the Student Assembly supports the Faculty Senate’s resolution requiring Dean of Faculty William Fry to ask professors to refrain from “assignments that necessitate academic work over scheduled break.”

Be it further resolved, that the Student Assembly asks the Dean of the Faculty to not only “remind the faculty in the beginning of the semesternot to frame assignments that necessitate academic work over scheduled breaks,” as the Faculty Senate’s resolution stipulates, but the S.A. also asks the Dean to remind the faculty prior to any break.
