Resolution 68

Sitara

Whereas, the Appropriations Committee issued the following report:

The Committee voted that the SAFC did err in denying funding to Sitara for their durable goods by a vote of 6–3−1. The committee generally felt that since the group provided a storage location in the original budget, even though it was off-campus, and that the guidelines could be confusing in this situation, the group should be funded.

Be it therefore resolved that, the Assembly adopt the following:

  • The SAFC did err in denying funding to Sitara for their durable goods, and Sitara should be funded by the SAFC for an additional $286.

Duff Ball, Co-org

Whereas, the Appropriations Committee issued the following report:

The Committee voted that the SAFC did err in denying funding to Duff Ball Co-org for its local event by a vote of 4–1−3. The committee felt that the SAFC had erred in the past by allowing Duff Ball to receive funding even though the event was after the last day of classes. In addition, all charges and disbursements will be made before the reimbursement deadline. Finally, the Committee wants to let Duff Ball co-org know that the SAFC will not fund this event again in the future if it occurs after the last day of classes.

Be it therefore resolved that, the Assembly adopt the following:

  • SAFC did err in denying funding to Duff Ball Co-org for its local event, and the SAFC will provide full funding up to the cap for this co-org.

Slope Radio

Whereas, the Appropriations Committee issued the following report:

The Committee voted that the SAFC did not err in denying funding to Slope Radio for its hardware and software requests by a vote of 0–7−1. The committee felt that since hardware, software, and flash drive purchases are explicitly prohibited by the SAFC guidelines, the appeal should not be granted.

Be it therefore resolved that, the Assembly adopt the following:

  • The SAFC did not err in denying funding to Slope Radio for its hardware and software requests, and the SAFC decision will stand.

Snodgrass & Wigglesworth

Whereas, the Appropriations Committee issued the following report:

The Committee voted that the SAFC did not err in denying funding to Snodgrass and Wigglesworth Undergraduate Entomology Club for their durable goods by a vote of 0–7−1. The committee felt that since the organization did not include an inventory report detailing its durable goods, the appeal should not be granted. Organizations are responsible for keeping track of their inventory and reporting the status of its durable goods to the SAFC each time it applies for funding.

Be it therefore resolved that, the Assembly adopt the following:

  • The SAFC did not err in denying funding to Snodgrass and Wigglesworth Undergraduate Entomology Club for their durable goods, and the SAFC decision will stand.

Just About Music

Whereas, the Appropriations Committee issued the following report:

The Committee voted that the SAFC did not err in denying funding to Just About Music for their durable goods by a vote of 0–5−3. The committee felt that since the organization did not include an inventory report detailing its durable goods, the appeal should not be granted. Organizations are responsible for keeping track of their inventory and reporting the status of its durable goods to the SAFC each time it applies for funding. Just About Music had purchased durable goods in Spring 2009 and therefore, should have included these items on an inventory report.

Be it therefore resolved that, the Assembly adopt the following:

  • The SAFC did not err in denying funding to Just About Music for their durable goods, and the SAFC decision will stand.

Cornell Piano Society

Whereas, the Appropriations Committee issued the following report:

The Committee voted that the SAFC did err in denying funding to Cornell Piano Society for their local event by a vote of 9–0−0. The committee felt that since the organization is applying for keys to practice rooms (which in essence are room reservations because they give the organization unquestionable access to the space) the group would not be expected to attain a room reservation beforehand.

Be it therefore resolved that, the Assembly adopt the following:

  • The SAFC did err in denying funding to Cornell Piano Society for their local event, and Cornell Piano Society should be funded by the SAFC for an additional $3,520.

Cornell Longboard Club

Whereas, the Appropriations Committee issued the following report:

The Committee voted that the SAFC did not err in denying funding to Cornell Longboard Club for their durable goods by a vote of 0–9−0.

  • The SAFC did not err in denying funding to Cornell Longboard Club for their durable goods, and the SAFC decision will stand.

Let’s Get Ready

Whereas, the Appropriations Committee issued the following report:

The Committee voted that the SAFC did not err in denying funding to Let’s Get Ready for their durable goods by a vote of 2–3−4. The committee felt that the SAT Study Guides, coach manuals, and student manuals couldn’t be considered durable goods according to the SAFC guidelines since they are “purchased for personalized use” and are not reusable. In addition, the original comment “no doc for books” was included because the group should have provided an inventory report for the durable goods they purchased last semester. Obviously, those “durable goods” aren’t in the group’s inventory any longer since they were not durable, which was further indication that the durable goods request for this year was not valid.

Be it therefore resolved that, the Assembly adopt the following:

  • The SAFC did err in denying funding to Let’s Get Ready for their durable goods, and the SAFC will fund the group for its appealed items.

Cornell Dietetic Association

Whereas, the Appropriations Committee issued the following report:

The Committee voted that the SAFC did not err in denying funding to Dietetic Association for their request for T-shirts, posters and posterboard by a vote of 0–7−1. The committee felt that since, according to the SAFC guidelines, T-shirts, posters and posterboards are not considered durable goods, the appeal should not be granted.

Be it therefore resolved that, the Assembly adopt the following:

  • The SAFC did not err in denying funding to Dietetic Association for their request for T-shirts, posters and posterboard, and the SAFC decision will stand.

Mansi

Whereas, the Appropriations Committee issued the following report:

The Committee voted that the SAFC did err in denying funding to Mansi for their durable goods by a vote of 7–0−1. The committee felt that since the organization provided a storage location in their online budget, the appeal should be granted.

Be it therefore resolved that, the Assembly adopt the following:

  • The SAFC did err in denying funding to Mansi for their durable goods, and Mansi should be funded by the SAFC for an additional $573.

Cheerleading

Whereas, the Appropriations Committee issued the following report:

The Committee voted that the SAFC appeal should be granted to Cheerleading for their local event by a vote of 5–2−2. The committee found that this was a challenging decision since, on one hand the SAFC did not err in making their decision, but neither did the group. Committee members ultimately decided that since there is no way the group can secure a room reservation beforehand but have used the room before regularly without distraction or interference, the appeal should be granted.

Be it therefore resolved that, the Assembly adopt the following:

  • The SAFC appeal should be granted to Cheerleading for their local event, and Cheerleading should be funded by the SAFC for an additional $3,000.

Be it further resolved that, the SAFC shall only allocate money if all other funding criteria not considered by the Appropriations Committee are met, including funding caps or other guidelines issues.
