S.A. Resolution #12: Request to Email Owego Volunteer Response to Undergraduates

Sponsored by: Roneal Desai ‘13, Alex Bores ‘13, Geoffrey Block ‘14

Whereas, the Student Assembly (the Assembly) states in its charter that its primary object is to “examine any matters which involve the interests or concern the welfare of the student community and to make proposals concerning those issues”;

Whereas, recent flooding has caused approximately $12 million in damage in the nearby town of Owego;

Whereas, 10,000 homes have already been reported to have been damaged, destroyed, or inaccessible;

Whereas, this is clearly a matter affecting the Cornell community, as multiple employees and students have been documented as being affected by the flood;

Whereas, there has been a clear supply of students willing to volunteer, yet efforts have not been effective due to the sheer mass of students and multiple lines of communication;

Whereas, the Public Service Center is coordinating funding through the by-line funded Community Partnership Board;

Be it therefore resolved, that the Student Assembly request through the Office of Communications that the attached email be sent through the Public Service Center to all undergraduates at Cornell;

Be it further resolved, that upon passing this resolution be sent immediately to the VP of Communications and VP of Student and Academic Services.

Respectfully Submitted,
