S.A. Resolution #29: Endorsement of the Dream Act

Whereas, the DREAM Act would create a pathway to legal residence for undocumented youth between the ages of 12 and 35 who entered the United States before age 16.

Whereas, to be eligible undocumented youth must have entered the United States before the age of 16 and have resided in the country for a continuous period of 5 years immediately before the enactment of the Act.

Whereas, undocumented youth must have earned a high school diploma or obtained a general education development certificate in the United States.

Whereas, undocumented youth must have good moral character.

Whereas, undocumented youth receive conditional residence for a period of six years where they must complete either 2 years of college or serve the uniformed services for 2 years.

Whereas, undocumented youth may apply for naturalization after the conditional basis period.

Whereas, President Skorton has endorsed the DREAM Act on April 22nd, 2010.

Be it therefore resolved, that the SA supports the Dream Act and advocates for its passage on behalf of the undergraduate student body at Cornell University.
