June 8, 2012 Letter to Registrar Regarding R. 45

Hi Cassie,

I hope you are having a great summer.

I want to formally communicate a Student Assembly resolution from the Spring semester, Resolution 45, “Student Assembly Support of a Tiered CUid Replacement System” which is attached. The resolution, sponsored by Peter Scelfo ‘15 and Alex Bores ‘13, passed at our final meeting. The resolution recommends the creation of a tier system for lost student ID cards that would incrementally increase the charge for each additional replacement ID. As it currently stands the first time students lose their ID cards they are required to pay a $40 replacement fee which is not covered by financial aid. Additionally, there are other costs associated with a lost ID card, such as temporarily access to the dining halls or residence halls. Rather than a flat fee, Assembly members recommend a tier system because they believe it would encourage responsibility but it would be less costly to students.

However, Assembly members also recognized that there is a lot of data analysis that goes into the process and they want to work with you to discuss the recommendation and come to a solution that benefits students but is feasible for you and the staff in your office.

Please do not hesitate to contact Peter, Alex, or myself over the summer if you have any questions about the resolution. We look forward to working with you in the upcoming year.

Best, Adam
